In a surprising announcement this morning via twitter, Square Enix has revealed that a 3D remake of beloved Secret of Mana will release in 2018. As a big fan of the SNES classic, along with some of the spin off games and sequels, I could not be happier!
Releasing 3D version of old games is not new to Square-Enix, and with the growing trend, I will not be surprised if we see a 3D remake of Chrono Trigger in the near future. The company did shut down a fan project making Chrono Trigger 3D a few years back, and perhaps it was because they always considered doing it themselves. I would also not be surprised to see this game get ported to mobile, much like Dragon Quest 8 was.
Secret of Mana will come to PS4 and PS Vita digitally, on February 15, 2018 worldwide.
